This section of is written by Neal Sideman.

"Mastering Panic” is a very powerful cognitive-behavioral approach.  It can be used for self-help or with your therapist.  It’s easy to begin to learn – just read through the following 12 pages.  With practice, you can learn mastery over the emotions of anxiety and panic.  Take your time reading this section, and have fun!

Many of the main ideas in “Mastering Panic” have been adapted from Mastery of Your Anxiety and Panic, Workbook, by Barlow and Craske.

Mastery of Your Anxiety and Panic: Workbook is designed to be used with a CBT therapist, but it can also be used for self-help.  It was developed by Dr. David Barlow and Dr. Michelle Craske – two of the world's leading experts in the field – and is used by many therapists around the world.  You can order it from the publisher, Oxford University Press, through their website: or by calling 1-800-445-9714.  If you order from, be sure that you get the Workbook (not the Therapist Guide) and that you get the latest edition, published in 2006.
